Transformer oil purification

The problem of aging power transformer fleet is quite relevant. This is mainly due to the high prices of new equipment. Therefore, the majority of electricity companies are trying to optimize their financial costs and extend the life of transformers that are already in operation. It is much cheaper, and the quality of transmission and distribution of energy does not suffer. Let’s try to understand the causes of aging of power transformers and possible ways to extend their life. One of the options for financial savings is the transformer oil purifier.

But first things first. Analyzing the special literature on the subject of operation of oil-filled electrical equipment, you can see that most often among the possible causes of aging of transformers are called:

  • humidity;
  • temperature;

Adverse environmental conditions and operation in extreme conditions are less affected. This is due to the fact that the duration of exposure of such factors to the transformer in relation to the time of its operation is negligible oil, while humidity, temperature and oxygen systematically affect the transformer and its components. The prolonged influence of high temperatures adversely affects the insulation of the transformer, accelerating its aging. In the end, this can lead to malfunctions of the equipment. If moisture is present in the insulation system, it is fraught with the decomposition of molecular chains, the acceleration of the aging process of cellulose, and also the deterioration of the dielectric properties.

Most often, moisture enters the transformer from the air, which is facilitated by improperly made or aging gaskets and seals. It is worth noting that water vapor can be formed as a result of degradation of paper insulation. The higher the humidity level, the lower the dielectric strength of the transformer.

With a high level of oxygen and moisture in the oil bubbles form, which lead to the appearance of voids and local tensions. This provokes breakdowns and accidents. Therefore, before pouring oil into the transformer, it should be cleaned. New oil does not require regeneration and restoration of its properties. Filters are used to remove harmful foreign particles from the oil.

Studies show that the use of fine filters is more effective. When filtering, oil-insoluble particles are retained, the dimensions of which exceed the dimensions of the filter element, regardless of the density of these particles. In deposits on fine filters, most of the excess organic matter remains.To filter the oil most often used filters of the surface-adsorbing type with a fineness of cleaning up to 5 microns such an oil purification plant has, however there are fine filters that catch and smaller particles. The main feature of these filters (as compared with the slit and volume-adsorbing) is a large filtering surface.
